Overview

  • Most people do not experience any negative side effects when taking AMORYN.
  • When side effects do occur, they are typically mild and often go away after a few days or weeks. In fact, of the users that do report side effects, 3 out of 4 classify their side effects as "mild".
  • Severe side effects are extremely rare. Less than 1.5% of users report side effects which they describe as "severe".
  • In general, AMORYN is very well tolerated. People are rarely forced to discontinue AMORYN due to an adverse event. In nearly all cases in which side effects do occur, they either disappear on their own or can be eliminated by taking simple actions such as adjusting the daily dose or dosing schedule.
  • When taken as directed, AMORYN has no known safety risks and/or dangerous side effects.

Likelihood of Side Effects (View Graph)

FACT: A recent study1 comparing 900-1800 mg per day of hyperforin-rich Hypericum extract, the same amount in 2-4 capsules of AMORYN, to the prescription antidepressant Paxil® found that hyperforin was more effective for relieving severe depression but caused 42% fewer side effects.

Frequency (Incidence) of Potential Side Effects

Most Common: The most commonly reported side effects, and the only four experienced by more than 10% of AMORYN users, are headaches (16.0%), fatigue (14.5%), vivid or unusual dreams (12.5%), and increased sensitivity to sunlight (11.1%). (
See Table for a complete list of side effects reported by AMORYN users.)

Low Rate of Drug-Related Side Effects: Problematic side effects commonly caused by prescription antidepressant drugs - reduced libido and weight gain - are rarely reported by AMORYN users. When they do occur, these side effects are almost always mild. Unlike antidepressant drugs, AMORYN does not cause dramatic weight gain or severe sexual dysfunction.

Photosensitivity: The Hypericum perforatum extract in AMORYN may increase the skin's sensitivity to sunlight. Individuals with fair skin or high sensitivity to sunlight should take standard precautions such as applying extra sunblock.

Drug Interactions: AMORYN may reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills and certain other prescription drugs. Please review the full list of potential drug interactions before taking AMORYN if you're currently taking any prescription medication. Please note, however, that AMORYN can safely be combined with most prescription drugs, all over-the-counter drugs, and all vitamins and natural supplements.

    Advice for Managing Side Effects

Headaches | Fatigue | Increased Anxiety | Insomnia | Stomach Upset or Nausea

Headaches: If you experience headaches when you first start taking AMORYN, drinking extra water often helps, and headaches typically go away within a couple weeks as your body adjusts to the supplement. If headaches persist, try lowering your daily dose to one (1) capsule. After taking only one (1) capsule each day for many weeks without experiencing headaches, it is often possible to resume taking the standard dose of two (2) capsules without headaches returning. Finally, keep in mind that while headaches are only a temporary discomfort, AMORYN's long-term benefits can have a lasting positive impact on your life. Because over 80% of AMORYN users report positive results, it's usually in the best interest of those who experience headaches to "tough it out" and allow sufficient time for the headaches to diminish and AMORYN to take effect (except in extremely rare cases of severe and/or debilitating headaches).

Fatigue: Fatigue is the second most common side effect experienced when taking AMORYN, reported by 14.5% of users. Most often, fatigue occurs during the first weeks of supplementation and eventually disappears. In fact, when surveyed after six weeks, nearly half of AMORYN users report feeling more energetic than before they started taking AMORYN, while few continue to feel fatigued and less energetic. If you experience fatigue or drowsiness, try taking your final dose of AMORYN just before bed. For instance, if you're taking two (2) capsules daily, take the 1st during the day and the 2nd at bedtime. And keep in mind that you're likely to have more energy in just a few weeks. Although it's generally best to spread your AMORYN dose throughout the day, if necessary you may take two (2) capsules before bed. In the rare event that drowsiness and/or fatigue persist and become intolerable, reduce your daily dose to one (1) capsule taken at bedtime.

Increased Anxiety or Panic Attacks: Although rare, it is possible to experience increased anxiety or panic attacks when you first start taking AMORYN. It's important to keep in mind that these side effects almost always disappear within a couple weeks. If you initially feel more anxious, this does not mean that AMORYN will not work for you. It's likely that AMORYN will reduce feelings of anxiety, as well as lessen the frequency and severity of panic attacks, once it begins working. In fact, after taking AMORYN for six weeks, 85% of users with anxiety report feeling less anxious and 89% with panic attacks report a reduction in the frequency and severity of their attacks. And less than 2% of users still report increased anxiety.
Keep in mind that AMORYN works gradually and you should not expect substantial improvement during the first few weeks of supplementation. On average, AMORYN users begin noticing improvement after 3-4 weeks, but it's possible that AMORYN may not achieve maximum effectiveness for nearly two months. Since AMORYN may not relieve anxiety or panic for many weeks and (in rare cases) can temporarily worsen anxiety when you start using it, anxious individuals may benefit from taking a fast-acting anti-anxiety supplement until AMORYN begins working. Many AMORYN users report excellent results with
SEREDYN, a natural supplement that relieves anxiety in just 15-30 minutes after a single dose. SEREDYN is safe, not addictive or habit-forming, and has a success rate of over 85% for anxiety and 80% for panic attacks. Visit the SEREDYN.COM website to learn more and order. You can also order AMORYN and SEREDYN together.

TIP: Even if you actually feel worse when you first begin using AMORYN, this does not mean that AMORYN will not work for you. It's usually in your best interest to continue taking the supplement for eight weeks to allow sufficient time for benefits to appear. Although side effects such as increased anxiety, fatigue, sleep disturbance or headaches may be uncomfortable, recognize that while these side effects are almost always temporary, there's an 80-90% chance that you'll experience lasting improvement if you continue using AMORYN. The long-term benefits of AMORYN - a happier and more confident attitude, reduced feelings of anxiety and worry, a renewed sense of optimism and wellbeing - far outweigh a few weeks of discomfort due to headaches or fatigue. When a person fails to attain positive results from AMORYN, it's often because they stopped taking it too soon. Don't be discouraged if you feel absolutely no effect or even negative effects when you start using AMORYN, because this does not prevent AMORYN from producing dramatic improvements over the long-term. Don't make the mistake of assuming that AMORYN isn't working just because you don't notice any changes within the first few weeks. Use AMORYN for at least two months before evaluating its effectiveness and, in all likelihood, your patience will be richly rewarded.

Insomnia or Sleep Disturbance: AMORYN may have a stimulating effect in certain individuals, and about 7.6% of AMORYN users report experiencing insomnia during the first six weeks of supplementation. Most often, insomnia occurs shortly after a person starts taking AMORYN and goes away over time. In fact, many people report that AMORYN eventually improves their sleep patterns: While 36% of users say they sleep better after taking AMORYN for six weeks, only 4% say that their sleep patterns become worse. If you have trouble sleeping, avoid taking AMORYN in the evening. For instance, if you're taking two (2) capsules daily, we recommend taking the first capsule in the morning and the second in the early afternoon. This almost always resolves the problem, but if sleep difficulties persist, try reducing your dose to one (1) capsule per day. MELLODYN, a natural sleep aid combining melatonin with valerian and three other beneficial herbs, can help you fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly through the night. MELLODYN works quickly after a single dose and is not habit-forming. Visit the MELLODYN.COM website for more information and to order. You can also order AMORYN and MELLODYN together.

Stomach Upset or Nausea: If you experience gastrointestinal disturbances such as stomach upset or nausea, take AMORYN with meals.

Severe or Potentially Serious Side Effects: When taken as directed, severe or potentially serious negative reactions are rare. AMORYN taken alone is extremely unlikely to cause severe side effects and poses virtually no health risks, but serious adverse reactions are possible (although still uncommon) when AMORYN is combined with certain prescription drugs. If you're currently taking a prescription medication, carefully review the list of potential
drug interactions and consult a physician before taking AMORYN with any drug that might interact. In the unlikely event that you experience an unusual or severe reaction, stop taking AMORYN immediately and consult a physician. It should be noted that even severe occurrences of AMORYN's most common side effects (drowsiness, headaches, fatigue, stomach upset), although uncomfortable, pose no health risks and will not persist once AMORYN has been discontinued.

    Conclusion

Remember that most AMORYN users do not experience side effects, and when side effects do occur they're usually mild, temporary, and easily managed. AMORYN doesn't cause weight gain or sexual side effects like many antidepressant drugs, and it's not habit-forming or addictive like most anti-anxiety meds. Studies comparing
hyperforin-rich Hypericum extract, the main ingredient in AMORYN, to prescription antidepressants show that hyperforin is just as effective but causes significantly fewer side effects. All these factors make AMORYN the ideal option for improving mood and supporting emotional wellbeing.
